Mental Health During Covid-19
Corona virus, also known as COVID-19 is a disease which originated in China in 2019. Owing to it’s huge widespread and enormous loss of life that was caused by this disease, it has been declared a pandemic. Countries all over the world are taking strict measures and are Following strict guidelines to prevent the spread of this infection. These restrictions range from banning public gatherings to more stringent measures such as a lockdown, which means that nobody can leave their houses, except for essentials.
Apart from Financial crisis,COVID-19 has affected the mental health of all individuals, irrespective of their financial conditions and age. There is an increased level of anxiety, stress and helplessness in most individuals which is caused by the lack of knowledge about when this pandemic will end and when life will return to normal. The new normal of ‘work from home’ for most working professionals has created an immense amount of frustration, anger and distress as they are unable to match their pre-lockdown productivity levels, create a routine and maintain a healthy work life balance. At the same time, children and adolescents are confused and unsure of how to handle this time. They are worried and concerned of the widespread damage around them and some of them are unable to process this. Parents are flustered and unsure of how they can manage their work load along with their families.
Isolation is leading to excessive feelings of loneliness,sadness and suicide amongst the young and old, alike. The elderly, who have been hit extremely hard by the pandemic, are unable to cope up with the technology dependent world and are constantly looking for alternative resources to help them with their concerns. Social distancing has made it harder for them to interact with other individuals and this thus leads to feelings of isolation, loneliness and sadness.

Instead, follow the news at specific intervals, maybe once or twice a day.Use mediation techniques to calm yourself, feel at peace and connect with your inner self. You can also practice yoga everyday, to stay fit and healthy through the lockdown.Stay connected to friends and family. Talk to your close friends and spend time with your family members. You can talk about how you are feeling and discussing with others who are also experiencing the same feelings can help. They might also give you suggestions and moral support.
